Teen Volunteers get to do some pretty cool stuff!

Feel free to call or write for more information about any of these opportunities! Volunteering at the library requires a filled out Volunteer Application. For volunteers under 18, it also requires a Parent/Guardian Agreement

Long-Term Volunteer Opportunities:

College Readiness (Computer Lab)

  • Description: Teaching workshop participants how to navigate the internet when searching for post secondary education options and exploring life skills needed while in post secondary schools.
  • Location: Various Locations
  • Preferred Qualifications: Must be familiar with the internet and computer operation. Also enjoys working with people.
  • Time Frame: 1-2 hours
  • Duties: Assist workshop participants in navigating the internet. Answer questions as needed by workshop participants.

Interviewing Skills Workshop (Computer Lab)

  • Name of Event: Job Search and Resume Help for Teens
  • Description of Event: Teaching participants how to interview correctly and how to make an effective resume.
  • Location: Various Locations
  • Preferred Qualifications: Must be familiar with navigation of the internet and computer operation. Also enjoys working with people.
  • Time Frame: 1 to 2 hours
  • Duties: Assist workshop participants in navigating the internet. Answer questions as needed by workshop participants.

Ellison Die Cuts

  • Description of Event/Project: Cut out shapes/animals for storytimes using the Ellison Die Cut machine.
  • Location: Main Library
  • Preferred Qualifications: Attention to detail
  • Time Frame: 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Once a week
  • Hours: 2 hours per week
  • Duties: Fill orders from branch libraries for Ellison Die Cuts. All materials provided. Cut the shapes and place in an envelope for each branch.

Subject Bibliography

  • Description of Event/Project: Updating online subject lists for use by staff and public. 
  • Location: Main Library
  • Preferred Qualifications: Attention to detail, computer literacy, and knowledge of teen books.
  • Time Frame: Ongiong
  • Hours: Flexible
  • Duties: Work with Teen Librarian to update and format book lists on the Teen Page of the library’s website. Check card catalog for holdings, add new titles, delete older ones, alphabetize by author, and combine lists where needed.

Slideshow

  • Description of Event/Project: Help make fun slideshows for the Teen Center.
    Location: Main Library
  • Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of Powerpoint. Good sense of humor.
  • Time Frame: Ongoing
  • Hours: Flexible
  • Duties: In the Teen Center, we have slideshows going all the time of funny images from the internet. Search the internet for funny, yet appropriate pictures and create a slideshow to be shown on our screens in the Teen Center. 

Shelf “Straightener”

  • Description of Event/Project: This task involves picking up stray books and sorting them in order on a book cart.
  • Location: Main Library
  • Preferred Qualifications: Attention to detail and love of books.
  • Time Frame: We need someone everyday 1-2 hours each day.
  • Duties: With a book cart, you will go through the nonfiction collection and pick up books laying on the ends of the shelves. Once finished, you will sort the books in numerical order.

Other projects may be tailored to individual needs or areas of interest.
