Thank you for your interest in donating materials to Nashville Public Library.
The Library accepts donations of books, DVDs, and CDs in new or gently-used condition. Small donations are accepted at all Library locations during open hours. Due to space limitations, please the library in advance to arrange a large donation (more than one box).
We Accept
Materials in good condition (no torn, yellowed, water-damaged, or marked‐on pages; no broken bindings or stained covers.)

- Music CDs
- DVDs
- MP3 audiobooks and music CDs
- Audiobooks on CD (unabridged only)
We Cannot Accept
Material in poor condition (has stains, water damage, smell, damaged bindings, writing, etc.)
- Audiobooks on Cassette and Music Cassettes
- VHS
- Textbooks
- Self-published material (except for archival purposes)
- Book Club Editions
- Reader’s Digest Books
- LPs
- Magazines & Newspapers
- Magazine Gift Subscriptions
Library staff screen all donated materials for potential addition to the library's collections.
Materials not suitable for inclusion in our collection may be used to help the Friends of the Library hold successful book sales. Funds raised at these sales support the Children's Summer Reading Program and other valuable library programs.
Library staff members are unable to assess the value of donated materials for tax purposes. We will be glad to give you a receipt which will also serve as the acknowledgement of your gift. If you would like a receipt, please provide the number of items donated.
