Estamos Aquí: Voces Contemporáneas | We Are Here: Contemporary Voices
December 12, 2015 - April 3, 2016
Main Library, Courtyard Gallery (2nd floor)
This exhibition presents the paintings, sculpture, drawings, printmaking, and mixed media works of Tennessee Hispanic artists whose work describes the immigrant experience, alongside excerpts of personal narratives locally collected from foreign-born residents as part of the New Faces of Nashville Collection.
In highlighting this collection of highly emotive words and images, a collective voice emerges, linking the individual to the larger history of immigrant experiences that have been foundational in our country's cultural identity.
Part of the year-long series Estamos Aqui.
The Aesthetic of a Book
October 16, 2015 - May 29, 2016
Main Library, Art Gallery (1st floor)
As a powerful form of expression, art can be found just about anywhere you look and sometimes where you least expect it. Consider, for example, the art that's found in a book. Though a book's illustrations are commonly assumed to be its main artwork, there is still more beauty to be found throughout the book's design.
Our exhibit of framed prints and books from the Wilson Limited Editions Collection demonstrates this unexpected beauty.
