Named for Hugo Gernsback, who is considered the father of magazine science fiction, the Hugo is also known the Science Fiction Achievement Award. The Hugo Award is given annually by the World Science Fiction Society and is determined by a popular vote from the WSFS membership.
The Nebula Awards are administered, voted on, and presented by the Science Fiction Writers of America (SFWA) to acknowledge excellence in science fiction writing.
