Johnny Depp

One of today’s most versatile and talented actors, Johnny Depp originally wanted to be a rock star.  He was the front man for several garage bands, including The Kids, which opened once for Iggy Pop.  Depp got into acting after a visit to LA with his former wife.  He made his film debut in 1984's A Nightmare on Elm Street.  A few years later he joined the cast of cult TV show 21 Jumpstreet.  Then his big break came when he started working with Tim Burton in Edward Scissorhands.  To date, Depp has been in six of Burton’s films, including a starring role in 2007’s Sweeney Todd: the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, for which he was Oscar-nominated.  If you see only one Burton/Depp collaboration, make it Sleepy Hollow.  His most famous role has been that of the Keith Richards inspired Jack Sparrow in the three Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

In 2009, Depp will star in another film adapted from a Hunter S. Thompson work: Rum Diary.  He is also the executive producer.
