The published family histories and records included in this collection are non-Tennessee, primarily relating to the areas from which Tennesseans came prior to settling in Tennessee, including North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Great Britain. The Grantham Collection, located in the Nashville Rooms west wing, consists of 5,000 titles, including a number of his personal publications, from Dr. Dewey Grantham, History Professor Emeritus at Vanderbilt University. Dr. Grantham’s collection includes the social, cultural, economic and political history of the post-Civil War South. Books in this collection will have the location Main, Nash. Robin and Bill King Civil Rights Collection
This monograph collection with a focus on the Civil Rights Movement in Nashville, Middle Tennessee, and the South is located in the Civil Rights Room. Books in this collection have the location Main, Nashville Room and NCR after the call number.
This collection, located in the Nashville Rooms west wing near the entrance to the Civil Rights Room, was donated by Judge Jean Muirhead and includes material related to womens civil rights and womens issues. Books in this collection have the location Nashville Room, Muirhead and Muirhead after the call number.
The Nashville Authors Collection, located in the Nashville Rooms east wing, is made up of titles authored by residents and includes a number of different topics. Circulating copies of these titles may be available in the regular collection. Books in this collection have the location Main, Nashville Rm, NAC and or NashAuth after the call number.
Nashville City Directories
This collection is located in the Nashville Rooms east wing. The following years are available in print: 1930; 1933; 1935; 1937; 1938-1939; 1940-1944; 1946-1947; 1949; 1950-present (1952 and 1992 not included). The years 1853-1861; 1865-1869; 1870-1918; 1920-1922; 1924-1926; and 1928 are available on microfilm. Although part of the Tennesseana collection, these directories are located in a separate section near the Genealogy Collection.
