Holiday Bingeing

November 22, 2018

The holidays are here! Which means we all have plenty of time to binge watch our favorite TV shows.

Happy Thanksgiving! Are you stuffed? Is the tryptophan coursing nicely through your veins? Good. Then you are in the perfect frame of mind to veg out on the couch and get your binge on. No idea what to watch? That’s what I’m here for.
I’ve got five great TV shows that you can share with your family (or use to avoid them, whatever) this holiday season.
You’re welcome.

I never watched these movies, even though this was when Mel Gibson was still cool. That said, I love this TV show. I’ve made it through the first season, and I must say that this show is way better than I expected. I’m really enjoying Clayne Crawford’s completely crazy Riggs. The library has the first two seasons on DVD, so get your holds on today, before they make more insane casting changes.

I have been watching this show for a couple of years now, and I just like it. It’s quirky and I love Zooey Deschanel as Jess. “Hey girl – whatcha doin’?” This is a great show to have on while you are working in the kitchen or putting laundry away. You don’t have to watch every second, but there are some good laughs. Plus there are seven seasons, which gives you plenty of excuses to avoid those houseguests that just won’t leave.

By and large, I don’t like when Hollywood tries to make religion funny because they never get it right. Until now. This show is forking hilarious. Again I’ve made it through the first season—I think I watched it in two days—and the library just got the second season in. I haven’t watched it myself because I’m saving it for that special holiday moment. To be honest, I’ll pretty much watch anything with Kristen Bell (aka Veronica Mars aka Mrs. Dax Shepherd), but the writing is good too.

My parents got me hooked on NCIS (pronounced NIN-sis of course) several years ago. Then the geniuses at CBS decided to spin off the series to LA and New Orleans. There are so many seasons of each, I kind of got lost in the shuffle, but lately I’ve been catching up. My mom loves New Orleans the most because of Scott Bakula (hello, Quantam Leap), but I think I’d rather watch LA because I love Callen not to mention Deeks and Kensi (PS writers – if you ever break up Deeks and Kensi, there will be tears…and ranting. Just saying).  Pick a season and settle in. They are all worth your time.

I saved the best for last. My sister-in-law casually mentioned this show to me in the fall and said I should watch it. Initially I skipped it because I’m not the biggest fan of shows like The Office, and this seemed like that but in a park more less. Ugh. Pass.  BUT I WAS WRONG. THIS SHOW IS HILARIOUS. It takes place in Indiana (where I’m from ) and they work for a local government (like I do), and the parks department has a HUGE feud going with the library (!?!). Love it. I love Ron Swanson. I am Leslie Knope (and I have 4 binders to explain why). My husband and I are saving the last couple of episodes we have to watch because we don’t want it to end, not that we won’t go right back to the beginning and watch again.
Ok, friends. There you have it. There’s enough TV here to keep you out of trouble at least until the new year. I want to go watch some more of these myself.
Happy Thanksgiving and happy bingeing (food or TV – whatever),
:) Amanda
