Honoring the Life of a Great American Statesman

October 20, 2021

This week our country lost a great statesman. His family announced via Facebook that, "General Colin L. Powell, former U.S. Secretary of State and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, passed away this morning due to complications from Covid 19."

General Powell served his country for over three decades, reaching the pinnacle of military success when he was named the 12th chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He then went on to serve as the first African-American Secretary of State under President George W. Bush. If you'd like to read more about General Powell, the library has lots of materials available.
